Chongyuan Temple

Chongyuan Temple was first built in 503 AD, the second year of Tianjian during the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. It was only one year apart from Hanshan Temple built in the same era. It has a history of 1504 years up to now. In history, Chongyuan Temple, as a Buddhist place of Zen Buddhism, had prosperous incense. The rebuilt Chongyuan Temple is located in the beautiful Yangcheng Lake Peninsula. The major feature is the 33-meter-tall Guanyin holy statue in the Water Guanyin Courtyard, which is a landscape reflecting the unique style of Chongyuan Temple as a lotus Buddhist kingdom and Guanyin dojo. The temple buildings include mountain gate, bell and drum tower, and Mahavira Hall. The construction area of the Mahavira Hall is 2100 square meters, which is a relatively large single building among domestic temples. On the Guanyin Island in front of the temple is enshrined the currently largest indoor Guanyin main statue in China, which is 33 meters high. Looking at Chongyuan Temple from afar on Yangcheng Lake, the majestic Mahavira Hall is magnificent, and the Guanyin Pavilion with upturned eaves is majestic and spectacular. Coupled with the main buildings of the temple advancing layer by layer and the Guanyin statue, copper-cavity leather drum, Guanyin wall on the island, copper bell and so on, which can be called a huge masterpiece in China, the elegance of Chongyuan Temple in those years is reproduced.
