Alishan National Scenic Area includes Fanlu, Zhuqi, Meishan, and Alishan. The transportation networks of these four counties are like the veins of leaves spreading throughout the area. Tourists shuttle through the area, marveling at the lush forest, spectacular sunrise, and beautiful clouds. Tasting tea in beautiful tea gardens and visiting the indigenous Tsou tribe are both leisure activities not to be missed. The high-altitude undulations form the topography of the eastern mountainous area of Alishan. It is composed of 18 main mountains such as Dashan, Shishui Mountain, Doushan, Wansui Mountain, Tashan, Zhushan, and Jianshan. Streams flow through the mountains. Since ancient times, Alishan has been abundant in red cypress and Chinese juniper. After logging, there are now nearly forty red cypress giant trees on the first and second phase giant tree boardwalks. Among them, the ‘Alishan Xianglin Divine Tree’, which is 45 meters high, has a circumference of 12.3 meters and is about 2,300 years old. It is a must-see place when visiting Alishan. There is rich ecology in the mountain area. Rare plants such as Osmunda, Huperzia somai, and Cymbidium faberi. Animals include Formosan macaque, Mikado pheasant, bush warbler, Alishan redstart, and Alishan salamander, etc., very lively. The forest train in the Alishan Forest Recreation Area is deeply loved by tourists. The sunrise in Alishan is magnificent and unforgettable. Zhushan area is an ideal place to watch the sunrise. The climate in the Alishan area is cool, with an average temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. It is worth visiting all year round. There is more rain in July and August. From November to April of the following year, under the influence of the northeast monsoon, it is easier to see the sea of clouds and cloud waterfalls. In spring cherry blossom season, the flowering period of Yoshino cherry blossoms lasts for a month. It is a cherry blossom viewing place in Taiwan that should not be missed. Visit indigenous tribes and understand local customs and culture. The houses in Tsou villages all have straw roofs, among which the men’s club ‘Kuba’ is famous. Short sunshine hours and large temperature differences between day and night are the geological advantages of Alishan. High mountain oolong tea, Jinxuan tea, and tea bags are all very popular. Tasting tea on-site/by the river and bamboo forest tea ceremony can all be experienced. There are also local specialty snacks. Sunrise cake and millet mochi are worth trying. Open all year round and open all day. Tips: The Alishan area is rainy. It is recommended to bring an umbrella before traveling. There are many turns on the roads in the scenic area. Those with motion sickness symptoms should prepare motion sickness medicine in advance.
