Memphis is located about 32 kilometers south of Cairo
It was the capital of ancient Egypt during the Old Kingdom period and is also one of the oldest cities in the world
But now it has become a ruin, with only an open-air museum and dilapidated stone statues left
The giant statue of Ramses II
The Memphis Museum is very mini
There is only a lying statue of Ramses II in the museum
This statue was originally about 14 meters high and was carved from a whole piece of limestone
It is quite exquisite
Although it has gone through 3,200 years, the hieroglyphs on the statue are still clearly visible
In an earthquake, the statue’s legs and left hand were broken, so now the statue lies on the ground in the hall of the museum
If you want to see it clearly, you can go up to the second-floor balcony and walk around
The sphinx statue of Amenphis II
Outside the museum is a small garden
You can see some broken stone carvings
Among them, the sphinx statue representing Amenphis II is more than 4 meters high and is carved from a whole piece of 80-ton rock
Opening hours: Open all year round from 8:00 to 16:00
