Located within the territory of Qiandeng Town in Cangnan County, Cangnan Wan Yao Scenic Area is a picturesque village by the stream in a gorge, known as a production base for civilian coarse porcelain in southern Zhejiang during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The development level of the scenic area is not high, and the ceramic workshops and old residences in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the old stage, still retain their original appearance. Many locals still live in the village, and there are not many tourists. Occasionally, you might encounter students here for sketching, giving it a sense of being hidden and unknown.
The ancient village has two entrances, about 3.5 kilometers apart. The minibus stops by the bridge at the secondary entrance, and after crossing the bridge, it is only a five to six hundred meters walk to the ticket office. The attractions in the village can be roughly divided into two parts: the ancient village itself, where you can admire the old houses and ancient kilns, and the natural landscape represented by the Sanzhe Waterfall to the west.
Although there are often only a few scattered tourists, a reasonable walking path has been planned in the village. Following the path, visitors can visit all the main attractions in a loop, which takes about two to three hours. After entering the scenic area and heading towards the main entrance on the west side of the village, the first place to visit is the Wan Yao Museum. The museum, converted from the ancestral home of the Zhu family, is a two-story ancient building where you can see various types of pottery bowls, plates, wine pots, etc., produced in the local area through the ages, as well as an introduction to the pottery process.
After visiting the museum, cross the Tian Deng Bridge and follow the gentle steps of the plank road up the mountain to visit the Sanzhe Waterfall in order. The Sanzhe Waterfall is a beautiful natural landscape in the village. The water originates from the Yu Cang Mountain Range, cascading down in three levels, and is caught by a blue pool, forming an integrated hanging waterfall. The second drop is particularly large, and looking down from the waterfall pavilion on the hillside, the falling water is particularly spectacular.
