Central-Mid-Levels Escalator

The Central-Mid-Levels Escalator connects the Central business district and the Mid-Levels residential area. In 1993, the British Hong Kong government built it to improve the transportation in the Mid-Levels. The escalator is composed of 20 one-way automatic escalators and 3 automatic walkways. The starting point is Central Market and the ending point is Conduit Road. A one-way trip takes about 20 minutes. There are multiple exits in the middle for pedestrians to get on and off conveniently. The Mid-Levels Escalator crosses multiple major streets in Central, including Queen’s Road Central and Hollywood Road. Along the way, there are many scenic spots such as the old Central Police Station. It is a good means of transportation for tourists. In addition, the escalator also passes through the SOHO area where there are many restaurants and bars. The small European-style bars, characteristic tea restaurants, and souvenir cake shops are full of charm. Foodies can find satisfactory delicacies here. The opening hours are from 06:00 to 10:00 and from 10:30 to 00:00 all year round. It goes downward from 6 am to 10 am and upward from 10:30 am to midnight. The specific business hours are subject to the official website. Tips: Hong Kong people are used to standing on the right side when taking the elevator and leaving an empty space on the left for those in a hurry.
