If you have two days for study tours, where would you go? I chose the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, the Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and the Zhejiang Library in Hangzhou. In 1-2 days, you can learn a lot of knowledge. Understand history and step into history. Although we are like dust in history, we can still take a peek. The ten-thousand-crafts bridal sedan of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum has attracted many people to see it after being on National Treasure. Now after the opening of the Zhijiang New Hall, the exhibition area is larger and it is even more enjoyable to see. The current Zhijiang New Hall of Zhejiang Provincial Museum has 15 exhibitions. From three levels of ideological height, academic depth and humanistic temperature, the 159 exhibition system has been constructed. It includes the comprehensive exhibition of Zhejiang history: ‘Ten Thousand Years in Zhejiang – Exhibition of Zhejiang History and Culture’, five special cultural exhibitions of Zhejiang: ‘Towards the East is the Sea – Exhibition of Zhejiang Marine Culture’, ‘Secret Colors of Jiangnan – Exhibition of Zhejiang Celadon Culture’, ‘Song · Charm’, ‘Protecting the Territory and Ensuring People’s Peace: Talking about Qian Liu – Series Exhibition of Zhejiang Celebrity Culture’, ‘A Continuum Through the Ages – Annals of Zhejiang Calligraphy and Painting’. Nine functional expansion experience exhibitions: ‘Ancient Tones – The Sound World of Guqin and Chinese People’, ‘Between Mountains and Waters – Digital Exhibition of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains and Humanity’, ‘A Lady’s Makeup – Traditional Wedding Customs and Dowries in the Ning-Shao Plain’, ‘Graceful Ladies – Digital Experience Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Female Images’, ‘Magnificent Spectacle – Exhibition of Series of Great Paintings in Chinese History’, ‘A Bond with Lacquer in One’s Hometown – Exhibition of Ancient Lacquerware Donated by Cao Qiyong and His Wife’, ‘Exhibition of the Top 100 Treasures of Zhejiang Provincial Museum’, ‘International Exchange Exhibition’, ‘Zhejiang Humanities Exploration Hall’. The famous ten treasures of the museum are all listed and distributed in different areas of different exhibition halls. (The content in parentheses is the historical period). In the comprehensive exhibition hall A on the first floor (‘Ten Thousand Years in Zhejiang’), there are the King of Jade Cong of Liangzhu Culture (Liangzhu Culture), the Bronze House with Musicians in Spring and Autumn Period (Spring and Autumn Period of Ancient Yue), the Ivory Dish-shaped Object with Double Birds Facing the Sun Pattern (Hemudu Culture), and the Sword of King Yue of Zhejiang Given by Royal Decree in Warring States Period (Spring and Autumn Period of Ancient Yue). In the comprehensive exhibition hall B on the second floor (‘Ten Thousand Years in Zhejiang’), there are the Gilded Pure Silver Ashoka Pagoda of Wuyue in Five Dynasties (Scenic Wonders of Wuyue) and the Standing Statue of Painted Guanyin in Clay of Northern Song Dynasty (Elegant Two Song Dynasties). On the third floor, in the Celadon Culture Hall (‘Secret Colors of Jiangnan’), there is the Celadon Inkstone Dropper in Boat Shape of Longquan Kiln in Yuan Dynasty. On the third floor, in the Folk Culture Hall (‘A Lady’s Makeup’), there is the ten-thousand-crafts bridal sedan in Ningbo in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. This exhibition hall also introduces the wedding culture. On the fourth floor, in the Guqin Art Hall (‘Ancient Tones’), there is the seven-string guqin named ‘Colorful Phoenix Sings at Qishan’ in Tang Dynasty. Now a large number of guqin collections are on display. They are all displayed separately and you can see the inscriptions on the back. On the fourth floor, in the Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains Hall (‘Between Mountains and Waters’), there is the Remaining Mountain Picture of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. The authentic work of Huang Gongwang’s Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains (part of the Remaining Mountain Picture scroll) is only on display for one month, from August 29th to September 29th. If you want to see it, you must go quickly.
In addition to the Hubei Provincial Museum, a collection of fine treasures has also arrived here. The Song Charm exhibition, which I personally favor, boasts an exquisite layout featuring a four-sided pavilion representing several renowned figures from the Song Dynasty, such as Su Shi, Yue Fei, Li Qingzhao, and Lin Hejing. The display background even utilizes Emperor Huizong of Song’s ‘ Auspicious Cranes’ painting. Furthermore, there is the first-ever permanent thematic exhibition of ‘The Great Series of Chinese Paintings through the Dynasties’ in the country, which incorporates various digital displays and requires reservations. The Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Pavilion is the first large-scale regional comprehensive intangible cultural heritage pavilion in the country, pioneering the exhibition concept of intangible heritage. It encompasses five major sections: ‘Oral Traditions and Marks’ (Folk Literature), ‘Craftsmanship and Life’ (Traditional Skills and Arts), ‘Body and Wisdom’ (Traditional Medicine, Sports, Games, and Acrobatics), ‘Performance and Charm’ (Traditional Drama, Quyi, Traditional Music, and Traditional Dance), and ‘Rituals and Spirit’ (Folklore). Many projects are experiential, making it an ideal destination for families with children. ‘Eastern Sea Fishery’ – Green Eyebrow Sea Boat, ‘Vivid Colors’ – Traditional Stage, ‘Chinese Time’ – General Prologue Hall, ‘Craftsmanship and Bamboo Charm’ – Craftsmanship Life Section, ‘Seeking Mountains and Inquiring Residences’ – Suyong Hall Wood Art Space, ‘Craftsmanship First Scene’ – Traditional Crafts Hall, and other check-in points. The new building of the Zhejiang Provincial Library also offers delightful surprises. The opening of ancient books is a wonderful treat for history enthusiasts. Reading and checking in are both possible. The theater hall on the basement floor has a wall covered with gold foil; the Light and Shadow Reading Planet – Children’s Immersive Reading Space is located in the children’s reading area of the Zhijiang Pavilion. A 12-meter-long ‘Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains’ painting is dynamically displayed on a 20-meter-wide and 2-meter-high large wall for readers; the Book Cube – Books Fill Four Walls. The Book Cube is a two-story study room with glass curtain walls on the exterior, nearly 13 meters high, centered around a T-shaped staircase that spans the third and fourth floors and is divided on both sides.
