Chen Yingshi’s Tomb is located at the eastern foot of Xian Mountain in the southern suburb of Huzhou City, about 2 kilometers away from the urban area. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Zhejiang Province.
Chen Yingshi’s Tomb was first built in 1918. It was expanded in 1934 and renovated in 1998. The renovated Chen Yingshi’s Tomb is composed of three parts: stone tablet archway, tomb passage and tomb chamber. It covers an area of about 3,000 square meters. The tomb passage is 201 meters long and 12 meters wide. Among them, the central tomb passage is 100 meters long and 2.8 meters wide. The stone tablet archway is 6.25 meters high and 7.20 meters wide. It is made of granite in the style of four pillars and three bays soaring into the sky. A pair of stone lions on both sides of the stone tablet archway are on the left and right respectively. In the middle of the plaque of the stone tablet archway are four characters ‘Achieve righteousness by sacrificing one’s life’ written by Sun Yat-sen. On the left is ‘Noble spirit endures forever’ inscribed by Lin Sen. On the right is the inscription ‘Spirit never dies’ by Chiang Kai-shek. The couplets on the stone pillars on both sides are inscribed by Yu Youren and Cai Yuanpei respectively. Walking through the 100-meter tomb passage and climbing up the steps, it is the first sacrificial platform of the tomb. There is another pair of stone lions on both sides of the sacrificial platform, making the tomb more solemn and solemn. In the center of the sacrificial platform is a giant granite stele engraved with ‘Eulogy of President Sun’, four characters in one sentence, with a total of 53 sentences and 212 characters. It expresses Sun Yat-sen’s high evaluation and deep feelings for the martyr. Climbing up the stone steps on both sides of the first sacrificial platform is Chen Yingshi’s Tomb. The tomb is round on top and square at the bottom. The front of the tomb chamber is engraved with four characters ‘Majestic as mountains and rivers’, which was written by Wang Shantao, the son of Wang Yiting, a painter and calligrapher from Huzhou in modern times. On the stele in front of the tomb is engraved ‘Tomb of Chen Yingshi’ written by Sun Yat-sen. Climbing up along the stone walls on both sides of the tomb is an arc-shaped platform. You can climb up high and look far. The beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains can be seen in full view.
