Danzhou Millennium Ancient Salt Fields

The Danzhou Millennium Ancient Salt Fields have a history of over 1200 years, making it one of the early sites for sun-drying salt production in China, and it remains well-preserved to this day.

The scenic area is located in the tranquil and leisurely seaside village of Yan Tian Village. Upon entering the village, one can immediately see the seashore adorned with stone troughs of varying sizes, arranged like neatly scattered inkstones around the ridges of salt fields, creating a spectacular sight. Not far from the salt fields is the famous Yangpu Port, where cargo ships from various countries are moored.

Today, Yan Tian Village still retains this ancient salt-making technique. First, beach mud and sand dried by the sun are mixed with seawater and filtered to create a high-salinity brine. Then, the brine is poured into the stone troughs and left to be sun-dried into salt.

If you wish to witness the salt workers at work, the chances are higher during the evening hours. The village is open all year round, with full-day access.

Must-see tips: 1. Due to the hot weather and the salt-making process, to observe the salt workers in action, it is generally best to visit during the evening hours.

2. It is strictly forbidden to step on the salt troughs (stone troughs with raised edges and concave centers, which are essential tools for salt production).
