Dongtan Wetland Park is located at the eastern end of Chongming Island, at the mouth of the Yangtze River, where the air is fresh and the endless reeds cover the tidal flats. Walking on the wooden boardwalk is an enjoyable way to get close to nature. Dongtan is a great place to watch the sunrise, and during the autumn and winter bird migration seasons, one can stand on the bird-watching platform in the park to observe the birds flying or resting from a distance, experiencing a lively aspect of nature. Dongtan Wetland Park is a necessary route for migratory birds in the Asia-Pacific region and also a wintering place for waterfowl. In the center of the park, there is an Egret Observation Platform, which facilitates bird-watching from an elevated position. Upon entering Dongtan Wetland Park, visitors pass through several areas such as the wetland landscape zone, wetland habitat restoration zone, waterfowl habitat, and rainwater collection area, where they can see vast reed beds and wetland lakes. In the spring and summer seasons, various floral plants can be seen among the grasses, but migratory birds are hard to spot. Within the park, visitors can choose to walk, ride an electric cart, rent a bicycle, or take a boat tour, starting from the visitor center to the depths of the park. The wetland habitat restoration zone and waterfowl habitat have a rowboat project, and there are also activities such as barbecue, camping, and fishing. The visitor center and the park’s fragrant grasslands and sea-viewing tower have restaurants that offer Chinese set meals and Western pastries. Opening times are Tuesday-Sunday from 08:30 to 17:00 all year round; closed all day on Mondays; and open from 08:30 to 17:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
