Gaoqiao is an ancient water town in Jiangnan with a long history and profound cultural heritage. Though Gaoqiao is not vast, it is surrounded by water on three sides and has been home to many notable figures and numerous cultural relics. Visit the Gaoqiao Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall to listen to local stories, savor the charm of the ancient town, appreciate folk treasures, and get close to cultural heritage. The exhibition hall features over 600 exhibits, mostly authentic pieces from local folk collections, divided into nearly 30 sections, condensing more than 870 years of Gaoqiao’s history. It provides a comprehensive reflection of Gaoqiao’s historical culture, production and life, as well as local customs and traditions. The museum is located in the Yang Xian Hall, a cultural heritage unit in the district, situated by the Gaoqiao Port, with a beautiful blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles. It takes about ten minutes to reach the museum after crossing the Ji Jing Road Bridge, with beautiful scenery along the way, full of ancient charm. Many old residences are still preserved, such as the Zhong Family Residence, Du Yuesheng’s Ancestral Hall, Huang Family Residence, Jing Ye Hall, Yang Xian Hall, and Yin Family Garden.
