The city was built to defend against foreign enemies, approved by Qing Shen Baocheng, and construction began in 1875 (the first year of the Guangxu period), taking five years to complete, with a history of over 130 years
The city walls of Hengchun Ancient City feature four gates—East, South, West, and North—each with a high platform for cannons, traditional semi-circular arches for the inner and outer gates, and a city tower on top, exuding an antique charm
Located in the center of the town, Hengchun Ancient City is well-preserved and has been designated as a second-level historical site in Taiwan
The four ancient gates form a suitable tourist circuit
Visitors can start from the West Gate, walk to Tianhou Temple, Houdong Mountain, and South Gate, then turn to the East Gate, from where they can overlook the panorama of Hengchun Town
The famous ‘Sea View No
7’ filming location, the White House, is also here, but entry requires a fee
Kenting Tropical Botanical Garden, Forest Amusement Park, Maopitou Seashore, Eluanbi Seashore, and Kenting Beach are all within the jurisdiction of Hengchun Town
The opening hours are subject to the actual operating status on the day
