The memorial archway is the first stop to enter Jiang’s mother’s cemetery. The stone archway is of four pillars and three gates. The four characters “Jiang’s Mother’s Pathway” are engraved on the central gate. Therefore, from here to Jiang’s mother’s tomb is collectively called “Jiang’s Mother’s Pathway”. From the stone archway to Jiang’s mother’s tomb is a 668-meter pebble road flanked by pine forests. After walking about 300 meters, there is a pavilion built across the road, shaped very much like the square scarf hat of ancient scholars. 168 meters up from the tomb lodge is Jiang’s mother’s tomb. Only four big characters “Exemplary Model for Women” are engraved on the fan-shaped railing in the middle of the tomb. They were inscribed by Sun Yat-sen himself. The character for pot has one more stroke. Pronounced as kun. It means the road in the palace and represents women. Fan means model. Zu means sufficient. Shi means example. The combined meaning of these four characters is “a model and example among women”. The horizontal tombstone “Jiang’s Mother’s Tomb” was also written by Sun Yat-sen himself. There is a phoenix and bamboo pattern engraved on the worship platform, implying that Jiang’s mother is a golden phoenix flying out of Gezhu Village. The tomb lodge in Jiang’s mother’s cemetery is called “Cian”. It is the place where descendants of the Jiang family observe mourning and live. Because only the loving mother is buried in the tomb and there is no strict father, it is named “Cian”. It was initially built in 1923 and expanded again in 1930. There are three bungalows and five main rooms. There are four stone tablets in the main room of Cian worthy of stopping to appreciate. Facing the main entrance is Sun Yat-sen’s “Eulogy for Mrs. Jiang”, handwritten by Tan Yankai. On the back is “A Brief Biography of My Mother, Mrs. Wang”, which recounts the life of Wang Caiyu. On the left and right walls are engraved “Lament for Mother” and “Comforting Generalissimo Jiang” respectively. Opening hours: open all day throughout the year. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
