Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folklore Exhibition Area

The Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folklore Exhibition Area is primarily divided into two sections: the Historical Ancient Kiln Display Area and the Ceramic Folklore Display Area. Here, you can witness ancient kilns from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, recreating the ceramic industry’s ambiance in the 15th and 16th centuries, and enjoy unique ceramic music performances.
Most of the buildings within the scenic area are renovated from old houses, allowing visitors to understand Jingdezhen’s ceramic culture amidst an antique atmosphere. After entering the main gate, each attraction is indicated by porcelain signs showing the direction. On the right is the Historical Ancient Kiln Display Area, where the first sight is the Fenghuo Xianshi Temple, which honors Tong Bin, who sacrificed himself for kiln firing during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and is revered as the Kiln God by later generations. Further in, there is a row of workshops selling exquisite ceramic crafts, although they are quite expensive. Deeper into this area is the highlight—kilns from various eras. You can successively see the Qing Dynasty’s Zhen Kiln, Ming and Qing Dynasties’ Imperial Kilns (Green Kiln, Dragon Kiln), Ming Dynasty’s Gourd Kiln, Yuan Dynasty’s Steamed Bun Kiln, and Song Dynasty’s Dragon Kiln. For a few yuan, you can drink a bowl of kiln worker tea and chat with the kiln masters to learn many stories about porcelain and ancient kilns, with the option to refill your tea.

Passing through the Porcelain Stele Corridor, you reach the end where the Ming Dynasty architectural complex, Minglu, is located. The Porcelain Sound Water Pavilion (a water stage) on the west side of the Porcelain Stele Corridor offers free ceramic music performances, with all instruments made of porcelain. Additionally, in some workshops within the scenic area, you can pay to participate in ceramic making and create your own ceramic artwork.
