The Blessed City scenic area is located on the east side of Yanjing Ridge on Nanhai Island, Dianbai District, Maoming City, Guangdong Province. It is 25 kilometers away from the city center and 29 kilometers away from Maoming Station. It covers an area of about 230,000 square meters, of which the building area is about 5,000 square meters. To the south of the scenic area is a 12-kilometer-long beach with white, soft, wide and gentle sand. Along the outside of the beach is a continuous coastal protection forest belt with a width of 800 to 1,000 meters. The Blessed City scenic area aims to create an immersive new cultural and tourism destination that integrates performing arts, cultural and creative industries, and commerce with Lady Xian’s culture as the IP, and combines ‘humanities history + technology + culture + performing arts’ across the country. Lady Xian’s culture: Lady Xian, whose real name is Xian Ying, dedicated her life to maintaining ethnic unity and national unity and made outstanding contributions to the social, economic and cultural development of Lingnan. Later generations called her the ‘Holy Mother of Lingnan’. Lady Xian has a wide and profound influence. Lady Xian’s temples are widespread in western Guangdong and Hainan regions. Commemorative activities are folk customs that have lasted for more than a thousand years. Lady Xian’s culture is a part of Lingnan culture and has important roles and significance in studying folklore and promoting excellent Chinese national culture. There are 128 venues commemorating Lady Xian in Lingnan region. Among them, the following three have scale and influence: Lady Xian’s Tomb of the State of Qiao in the Sui Dynasty, Empress Temple, and Lady Xian’s Temple in Gaozhou. OCT has created the Blessed City scenic area as the fourth major commemorative venue for Lady Xian’s culture in Lingnan region in an ‘immersive performing arts way’. In the future, it will become an important part of Maoming City’s ‘kind-hearted Maoming’ cultural output and an important base for ‘patriotic education’! The Blessed City scenic area is composed of three parts: Area A (commercial area), Area B (ancient street and tourist center), and Area C (immersive performing arts area). Area A is a consumption area integrating commerce and cultural creativity. Commerce includes tea bars, cafes, light meals, convenience store products and other business forms, cultural and creative theme commodities of Lady Xian, film and television script experience stores, Hanfu exhibition areas, etc. Area B is composed of an ancient street and a tourist center. The ancient street is about 60 meters long and has a total of 20 stalls. Taking the Sui and Tang dynasties as the exterior, it runs through the folk customs and content of the Sui and Tang dynasties. Walking here, the staff and stall owners are all dressed in ancient costumes, and there are bursts of hawking sounds, without losing the antique charm, fully reflecting the unique charm of Sui and Tang culture. The tourist center consists of commodity sales areas, ticket consultation areas, image exhibition areas, tourist rest areas, actor dressing rooms, offices and other spaces. Area C is composed of supporting facilities such as the Fucheng Theater, Agarwood Exhibition Hall, Lady Xian Exhibition Hall, and tea room. Among them, the core product of the project, the immersive prayer drama ‘Heart Incense’, will grandly open in the Fucheng Theater. In the 50 minutes of detachment from reality, through Lady Xian’s will ‘clear song’, in the Blessed City, experience ‘learning’ and ‘farewell’, and realize the mental journey of wishes. It expresses that the reason why every wish can be realized is that we need to learn to treat our own desires well and bless the desires of others.
Always with good intentions, knowing how to make choices, and restraining expansion lead to a peaceful enlightenment. The Agarwood Exhibition Hall is located behind the indoor theater, and the exhibition is divided into three parts: ‘First Encounter with Agarwood’, ‘Incense Tools and the Way of Incense’, and ‘The Application of Agarwood’. Under the soft lighting, all the agarwood emits the luster of time. The exhibition hall provides an opportunity for agarwood enthusiasts to communicate and exchange, and also allows visitors to further deepen their understanding of agarwood, using agarwood as a medium to inherit and promote China’s excellent traditional culture.
The Xian Furen Exhibition Hall is composed of three parts: ‘Integration of Li and Han’, ‘Protecting the Country and People’, and ‘The Spirit of Kindness’. The wall design of ‘Integration of Li and Han’ is a semi-scene mural. Combined with character animations, it tells the story of Lingnan’s admiration for the Central Plains culture; ‘Protecting the Country and People’ narrates the story of Xian Furen during the Liang, Chen, and Sui dynasties, including her wisdom in relocating officials, sacrificing her son to quell a rebellion, and accepting the imperial edict to return to the Sui dynasty. ‘The Spirit of Kindness’ tells the story of the formation and distribution of Xian Furen’s culture, and displays the worship of Xian Furen’s spirit by people from ancient times to the present in various places.
