Liyuxi is located in Puyuan Village, 5 kilometers away from Zhouning County. It is about half an hour’s drive from Jiulongji. At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, the ancestors of the Zheng family from Xingyang Prefecture moved here to avoid the war. In order to prevent others from poisoning, they stocked carp in the water. The ancestors set down rules and formulated family rules strictly prohibiting fishing and harming carp. The villagers strictly abide by the family rules and pass them down from generation to generation. To this day, the local people still maintain the tradition of ‘not fishing and not eating’ carp. They even retain the custom of burying fish. For the dead carp, people kowtow three times and recite a 229-character fish memorial text, and then bury it in the fish tomb. This is a local custom. Now, Liyuxi has undergone some commercial development and some relatively modern sculptures and buildings have been built. However, the simple and unsophisticated atmosphere in the village still remains. The whole tour is relatively leisurely. Just stroll along the paths in the village and enjoy the scenery. Walk across the Zhenqu Bridge and walk along the ancient street of the Ming and Qing Dynasties while looking. There are still people living in the old courtyard here, which is very lively. The attractions worth seeing include Zheng’s Ancestral Hall, Eighteen Streams, Zhile Pavilion and so on.
