Lushan Scenic and Historic Interest Area is located by the shores of Poyang Lake in Jiujiang City. While its natural scenery may not match the extraordinary dangers of the Five Great Mountains, it is rich in cultural heritage. Throughout the ages, many literati have left behind beautiful verses praising Lushan, especially Su Shi’s line ‘I do not recognize the true face of Lushan, for I am in the mountain itself,’ which fills people with longing. Today, Lushan has become a mature tourist destination, attracting many visitors to explore its ‘true face’ with its green mountains, clear waters, waterfalls, sunrises, and modern villas.
Visitors to the scenic area typically arrive by car to Jiujiang and then transfer to a bus. The bus stops at the Lushan entrance, where tickets can be purchased to enter and continue up to Guling Town. Guling Town serves as the hub for Lushan tourism, where accommodation, dining, and shopping needs can be met. It is also the terminal for Lushan’s sightseeing buses, making it convenient to travel to various attractions on foot or by vehicle.
The main attractions of Lushan are concentrated on the northwest and southeast sides of the mountain. Generally, two to three days are arranged for visiting, but if time is tight, a few main attractions can be covered in one day. The West Line gathers the essence of Lushan, such as the rippling Ruqin Lake, the filming location of ‘Lushan Love’ – Huajing, and the splendid Jinxiu Valley. With concentrated attractions and a shorter duration, it is a more relaxed route suitable for a one-day tour. The East Line’s attractions are more spread out, with their grandeur being the highlight. In addition to attractions like climbing Hanpo Kou, ascending Wulao Peak, and descending Sandiequan, there are also old villas like Mei Lu and the site of the Lushan Conference worth visiting, although they are more physically demanding.
Sightseeing primarily involves walking, with sightseeing bus routes running between the main attractions within the scenic area. The physical exertion required for a full hike is considerable, so a combination of sightseeing buses and walking is recommended. This way, you won’t have to worry about how to plan your route; just follow the sightseeing bus routes. Additionally, the Lushan Love Cinema in Guling Town screens the 1980 version of ‘Lushan Love,’ allowing viewers to experience the restraint and warmth of that era. Interestingly, as this cinema only shows this one movie every day, it has set a Guinness World Record.
