The 108-meter-tall Nanshan Sea Guanyin is solemn and spectacular, and both the Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall and Nanshan Temple are adorned with various and exquisitely carved Buddhist statues.

Pray for blessings and seek peace. The ancient Chinese saying ‘Blessings as vast as the East Sea, and longevity as enduring as the Southern Mountain’ speaks to the long-standing connection between Nanshan and the culture of fortune and longevity, making it an excellent place for Buddhist prayers. Recommended route: Not Two Gate – Nanshan Temple – Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall – Nanshan Sea Guanyin. Not Two Gate is the main entrance of the scenic area, symbolizing the great wisdom of Buddhism. Entering here marks the beginning of the Buddhist pilgrimage. A few hundred meters away is the starting point for the scenic area’s shuttle bus. Nanshan Temple and Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall are popular attractions within the area, and the Nanshan Sea Guanyin at the end is a must-see.


The Nanshan Sea Guanyin: A 108-meter-tall statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva stands majestically over the blue waves of the South China Sea. This statue is not only a landmark of the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area but also a pilgrimage site for many Buddhist believers. The Guanyin statue is imposing, with three integrated figures holding beads, a casket, and a lotus, symbolizing compassion, wisdom, and peace. In addition to viewing from a distance and up close, visitors can also take an elevator or walk up to the lotus base of the Guanyin statue to touch the Buddha’s feet and pray sincerely.


Nanshan Temple: A grand and imposing large temple, Nanshan Temple is a large-scale temple in the style of the Tang Dynasty, with a scale that is second to none in the South China region. The overall atmosphere is grand and solemn. The Golden Gate (Mahavira Hall), Tusita Palace, and Renwang Gate within the temple are must-visit places. Free incense is provided within the temple for sincere worship.


Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall: A hall of exquisite craftsmanship, the hall enshrines thirty-three manifestations of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, with various shapes and resplendent gold, making it well worth a visit. Here, visitors can also copy Buddhist scriptures for free, experiencing the purification of Buddhist culture.


The entire area is open throughout the year from 08:00 to 17:00, after which indoor and temple attractions in the scenic area cease to be open. Preferential policies for children: Children under 1.2 meters (inclusive) and under 6 years old (with a resident ID card or household registration book) enjoy free admission; children between 1.2 meters (exclusive) and 1.4 meters (inclusive) and minors between 7 years old (inclusive) and 18 years old (exclusive) (with a resident ID card or household registration book) enjoy discounted tickets. Peak season is 65 yuan per person, off-peak season is 54 yuan per person. Ticket discounts for the elderly: Elderly people aged 70 and above (with a valid ID or elderly preferential certificate) enjoy free admission; those aged 60 to 69 (inclusive) can enjoy discounted tickets for the elderly with their valid ID (resident ID, elderly preferential certificate) during the peak season at 65 yuan per person and the off-peak season at 54 yuan per person. Ticket discounts for the disabled: With a disability certificate issued by the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, enjoy free admission. Journalists: With a press card issued by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, enjoy free admission. Military personnel: Active-duty military personnel with officer’s ID, military police ID, military civilian ID (military civilian cadre ID, civilian personnel ID), soldier’s ID, military retirement ID, disabled soldier ID, disabled people’s police ID, and military and armed police academy student ID (note: active-duty military personnel who have joined a tour group do not enjoy free tickets) enjoy free admission. Firefighters: With a national comprehensive fire rescue personnel ID or fire rescue academy student ID issued by the Ministry of Emergency Management (note: firefighters who have joined a tour group do not enjoy free tickets) enjoy free admission. Buddhists: Buddhists (with precepts certificate or conversion certificate issued by religious associations) enjoy free admission. Students: Students (including students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, excluding adult education, with a valid full-time registered student ID) enjoy student discounted tickets, peak season is 65 yuan per person, off-peak season is 54 yuan per person.
