The ancient Chinese saying ‘Blessings as vast as the East Sea, and longevity as enduring as the Southern Mountain’ speaks to the long-standing connection between Nanshan and the culture of fortune and longevity, making it an excellent place for Buddhist prayers. Recommended route: Not Two Gate – Nanshan Temple – Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall – Nanshan Sea Guanyin. Not Two Gate is the main entrance of the scenic area, symbolizing the great wisdom of Buddhism. Entering here marks the beginning of the Buddhist pilgrimage. A few hundred meters away is the starting point for the scenic area’s shuttle bus. Nanshan Temple and Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall are popular attractions within the area, and the Nanshan Sea Guanyin at the end is a must-see. The Nanshan Sea Guanyin: A 108-meter-tall statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva stands majestically over the blue waves of the South China Sea. This statue is not only a landmark of the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area but also a pilgrimage site for many Buddhist believers. The Guanyin statue is imposing, with three integrated figures holding beads, a casket, and a lotus, symbolizing compassion, wisdom, and peace. In addition to viewing from a distance and up close, visitors can also take an elevator or walk up to the lotus base of the Guanyin statue to touch the Buddha’s feet and pray sincerely. Nanshan Temple: A grand and imposing large temple, Nanshan Temple is a large-scale temple in the style of the Tang Dynasty, with a scale that is second to none in the South China region. The overall atmosphere is grand and solemn. The Golden Gate (Mahavira Hall), Tusita Palace, and Renwang Gate within the temple are must-visit places. Free incense is provided within the temple for sincere worship. Thirty-Three Guanyin Hall: A hall of exquisite craftsmanship, the hall enshrines thirty-three manifestations of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, with various shapes and resplendent gold, making it well worth a visit.
