Nantian Gate is located on the southern Nanshan of Putuo Mountain, near the Duangu Passenger Terminal, and is an area close to the terminal and the tourist center.
If you are looking for a tranquil spot to watch the sea and listen to the tide, Nantian Gate is an excellent choice.

Upon entering the gate of Putuo Mountain and following the coastline towards the direction of Duangu Saint Site, you will arrive at the territory of Nantian Gate.
After passing the coastal archway, take the small path along the sea dike to the right, walk along a section of the seawall, and then climb up the steps to reach Nantian Gate.
The temple itself is not large, but its distinctive feature is the three huge rocks in front of the temple that form a gate shape, hence the name Nantian Gate.
There are many cliff inscriptions on the huge rocks, and the most eye-catching is the inscription ‘Grand View of Mountains and Seas’ from the Kangxi era.
Since most tour groups do not include Nantian Gate in their itinerary, this place remains relatively quiet.
Here, the view of the sea is excellent. Sitting on the rocks and listening to the waves and the sound of the tide gives a sudden sense of enlightenment.
From Nantian Gate, heading east along Jinsha Road leads to the Zishulin, where the Refusal to Go Guanyin Temple and the 33-meter-high South Sea Guanyin are located.
The ferry to the ‘Sea Reclining Buddha’ Luojia Mountain departs from Duangu Passenger Terminal, with a journey time of about half an hour.
Usually, there are three round-trip ferries per day, and additional ferries may be added during the peak season when there are more tourists. The specific times are subject to the daily announcements at the terminal.
Opening hours are all year round, open all day.
