Pingshan Village

Pingshan Village in Yixian County is nestled against the mountains and waters, with houses built along both banks of the stream. To facilitate the travel of residents across the stream, eight stone arch bridges, collectively known as the ‘Changning Eight Ancient Bridges’, were constructed during the Ming Dynasty’s Chenghua era. The houses built along the stream, the quaint stone bridges, and the babbling brook beneath them form a typical rural scene of ‘small bridges, flowing water, and homes’. As Pingshan Village is a settlement for the Shu clan, it is also referred to as Shu Village. Along the stream, there are small streets lined with small businesses that typically have shops at the front and workshops or residences at the back. The village preserves seven ancestral halls, including Guangyu Hall and Chengdao Hall, among which Shu Qingyu Hall is an extremely rare Ming Dynasty clan ancestral hall in southern Anhui. Additionally, there are over 200 Ming and Qing dynasty residential buildings preserved, along with famous historical sites such as the Temple of the Three Maidens, Changning Lake, the Imperial Bodyguard’s Wall Plaque, Shu Xiuwen’s Former Residence, Magnolia Court, Gourd Well, and the Small Embroidery Tower. Jiudu Shu Village is a place of scenery all year round. In spring, the rain nurtures the peach blossoms and the water swells; in summer, it’s a place to cool off with willows hanging; in autumn, the moon is admired with the water reflecting the moving bridges; in winter, one can tread on snow with fresh bamboo shoots emerging. The opening hours are from 07:30 to 17:30 all year round.
