Shanghai Museum of Glass

The Shanghai Museum of Glass demands innovation and iteration from itself, creating a high-quality visiting experience for the audience and making it a cultural and lifestyle destination that people can imagine and look forward to. The permanent exhibition of the Shanghai Museum of Glass has been comprehensively upgraded and iterated, and will officially open to the public on May 1! The upgraded and iterated permanent exhibition will include Exhibition Hall 1 ‘Science History and Technology’, Exhibition Hall 2 ‘Art’, Exhibition Hall 3 ‘Glass in All Forms’, and Exhibition Hall 4 ‘NXT Virtual Reality Laboratory’, providing a rich and diverse experience for visitors of all ages and showing the infinite possibilities of glass and leading a new museum lifestyle. The Kids Museum of Glass is the first glass-themed parent-child cultural destination in Shanghai and even in China that is tailor-made for children. It is committed to providing a fun knowledge, culture and art interactive experience space for children aged 4 to 12. The new Kids Museum of Glass 2.0 is a contemporary art and design museum. Cool kids full of curiosity (and their parents) can explore here and get to know this ever-changing material better. Combining novel creativity, interesting design and the concept of learning through play, a door to a world full of imagination of glass will open for children. Here, they can freely shuttle through a wonderful world that belongs only to them. In addition to gaining happiness, it can also inspire them to cultivate an independent heart of exploration, discovery and creation. The Hot Glass Theater is committed to breaking through the traditional exhibition mode and interpreting the inheritance and innovation of glass craftsmanship in a highly tensioned form. The limit sense of glass and the unpredictable characteristics of glass will be vividly presented in various exciting ways. Different from the hot glass making demonstration of traditional glass museums, the Hot Glass Theater breaks through the tradition and combines superb glass making technology with artistic drama performances, sound, light and electricity to show the audience the extraordinariness of hot glass craftsmanship. At present, the Shanghai Museum of Glass has developed two Hot Glass Theater performances, namely ‘Dream’ and ‘Wanderer’. The Glass Maze is transformed from one of the oldest games in the world. The 575-square-meter glass maze turns the maze game into a special design experience. The maze makes full use of the material characteristics of glass and mirrors, presents the visual game of refraction and reflection to the extreme, and combines them into an ‘endless’ psychedelic space in a surreal way. The design of lighting and music makes the maze game even more exciting, and the check-in task of looking for geometric figures makes exploration more challenging. Please pay attention to safety in the maze, be calm, engaged and bold to try.
Embark on a maze challenge that promises a day full of surprises and joy! In its seventh year since opening, the Shanghai Glass Museum has taken an unconventional approach by actively ‘shattering’ everything that exists, presenting an exhibition that touches on reality through fragmentation, connects emotions through broken pieces, and firmly believes it can move every visitor. The special exhibition showcases 21 installation works that use sharp, heart-striking imagery related to ‘shattering’ to pierce through previously solidified, closed thoughts, and concretize the emotions, experiences, and memories that everyone will encounter. Additionally, the emotional power of music plays a very important role—each installation is paired with a carefully selected, exclusive song that interprets the theme of the work with greater emotional impact. The nearly 2000 square meters of pure white exhibition design space will provide you with a viewing experience that transcends reality. Even better, you can also smash a glass cup here to experience the personal significance of ‘breaking.’ DIY craft courses cover ten mainstream glass manufacturing processes, allowing both adults and children to find joy in hands-on creation. The museum’s glass-making DIY courses include lampworking, blowing, hot melting, inlaying, painting, mosaic, and beading courses of varying difficulty levels.
