Duration: 2 days, Time: May, Cost per person: 1000 yuan. With whom: Family. Activities: Culinary experiences, self-driving tours, free-and-easy travels, weekend getaways. The author visited these places: Zhujiajiao Sun Island, Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel. Published on 2020-06-03 12:41. After promising my daughter a spring outing for a long time, it finally came to fruition in May. After much deliberation, we chose the Sun Island Resort Hotel near the ancient town of Zhujiajiao. One reason was that the family-friendly hotel was suitable for our family of three, and secondly, hotels that allow pets are indeed rare. So, the three of us, along with our 16-month-old dog, Beibei, set off in our car towards Qingpu District! The Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel is located near Zhujiajiao ancient town on the outskirts of Shanghai. It is said that there were traces of human habitation on the island during the Western Zhou Dynasty in China, making it a historically significant island. In May, the island is lush with vegetation, willows are green, and the grass is everywhere, giving off an atmosphere of April’s fragrance and a taste of a paradise away from the world. Self-driving/bus route: We drove from downtown Shanghai to Sun Island via the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, which took about an hour and was very convenient. If you don’t drive, you can take the Line 17 subway to Zhujiajiao Town, and then take a taxi or transfer to a bus. Beloved Family Rooms: The check-in lobby and villa area of Sun Island are separate. After completing the procedures, you can drive or take a shuttle bus within the island to your room. The villa area is vast, with lush vegetation, adjacent to the Mao River, and walking through it gives a feeling of a secluded path. We chose the Club Family Room next to the river, which was indeed very spacious upon arrival. The soft furnishings in the room are all cartoon themes that babies like. You can see a large chessboard carpet as soon as you enter, next to which there are several boxes of Lego toys, children’s tents, and cartoon dolls. It is indeed a Shanghai family hotel with zero negative reviews. The room is equipped with a capsule coffee machine and free soft drinks, and additionally, a bottle of red wine produced by the hotel’s sister brand is provided, making it feel like great value. The room features a parent-child bed design, a double bed + a baby bed, and the bathroom has a separate bathtub, children’s toothbrush and toothpaste, and a child’s toilet seat cover, which is very considerate. Pet Paradise: After unpacking our luggage, we took Beibei (my silly dog) straight to the Pet Paradise. Before we even arrived, we saw various parents with their dogs, and Beibei was very excited. The Pet Paradise is divided into indoor and outdoor areas. Indoors, dogs can have afternoon tea, play on climbing frames, and play with ocean balls. Outdoors, there is a large grassy area for dogs to run around, and there is also a professional pet swimming pool for dogs to swim in. It is worth mentioning that Sun Island has pet boarding and pet training services, equipped with professional dog trainers who can help dogs correct bad habits and learn some skills. Beibei was boarded here for an afternoon. The little guy was timid and kept barking, but the staff were very patient, even giving him biscuits and yogurt, which was super nice.
Mermaid Train: After leaving the Pet Paradise, I took my daughter to ride the Mermaid Train. The train is composed of blue and white colors, with colorful paintings on both sides of the carriage, full of childlike innocence. The train stops at three stations throughout the journey: the hotel lobby, Mermaid Pier, and the small green space. With a ticket, you can ride all day, enjoying the scenery of the island and feeling refreshed. Play/Entertainment: Before coming, I had heard that the Equestrian Club at Shanghai Sun Island is quite famous. After breakfast on the second day, I took my daughter to ride a horse. At first, she was a bit scared of the large horse, but later the staff brought a pony for her to ride, and she fell in love with it immediately. Protective gear is worn before getting on the horse, and the staff will lead the horse the whole time, ensuring there is no danger. My child had a great time. I saw many children learning professional equestrian skills at the equestrian field (Shanghai Sun Island Equestrian Club), which was very impressive. There are many places in the Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel suitable for children to play. We chose to go to the Craftsmanship Pavilion to do some crafts first. There are teaching teachers and tool kits, and all you need to do is follow the instructions. We chose to make a soft pottery and a leather bag, and both were successfully completed! The weather in May is already quite hot, and many people have gathered at Mermaid Pier, making water sports a popular activity. Our family of three rented a water bike, enjoying a leisurely and melodious time. Food Delights: On the first day, the family had a hot pot dinner. Each person had their own pot, and the set meal included vegetables, meat, fish, and shellfish. The pork bone soup was thick and rich. I heard that the vegetables are organically grown on the island, and they are very crisp and refreshing. With meat and seafood, it is enough to eat. If you feel hungry, you can add a main course, and it is unlimited. The breakfast on the second day was in the hotel’s buffet restaurant. It must be praised as being of very high quality in the hotel, with both Chinese and Western styles. The open noodles are very delicious, and the self-made soy milk and yogurt are unique. If you want Western-style food, there are also salads and bread. The whole family was very satisfied. Lunch was chosen at the Waterfall Western Restaurant on the first floor of the lobby. We were not very hungry after eating too much in the morning. I ordered a special children’s meal for my daughter, with children’s special utensils, freshly made hamburgers, and fruit juice, which were very popular. My husband and I tried the new dirty milk, a dessert made with fresh milk and fruit, which was very good to have a cup of when it was cool in early summer. After eating and playing to our heart’s content, we returned home. The time spent at Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel was very pleasant. The slow pace of time allowed us to let go of fatigue and calm our minds. I hope to have the opportunity to come again in the future.
