If there exists a place with breathtakingly vast meadows, a river rivaling West Lake in beauty, and a lush ecological forest… along with ancient pagodas and pastoral scenery for visitors to explore, can it be considered a great destination? If such a place also offers spacious and convenient roads, as well as a hot spring resort for visitors to rejuvenate, featuring European-style villas, an equestrian field, lakeside barbecues, and more, doesn’t it add to the idyllic charm? In fact, starting from downtown Shanghai and taking the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, one can quickly reach this location—Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel—in less than an hour. The long-promised spring outing with my daughter finally came to fruition in May. What’s remarkable is that Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel, being pet-friendly, allows pets to stay, so our family of three, along with our dog, set off to Qingpu District in a grand manner!
The check-in lobby and villa area of Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel are separate. After completing the procedures, one can either drive or take a shuttle bus within the island to their rooms. The villa area is vast, with lush vegetation, adjacent to the river, giving a feeling of a secluded and winding path. We chose a club family room right next to the river, which was indeed very spacious upon arrival. The soft furnishings in the room are all cartoon themes that children love, with a large chessboard carpet visible upon entering, alongside several boxes of Lego toys, a children’s tent, and cartoon dolls. It is well-deserving of its zero negative reviews as a family hotel in Shanghai. The room is equipped with a capsule coffee machine and complimentary soft drinks, and also includes a bottle of red wine from the hotel’s sister brand, which feels like great value. The room has a parent-child bed design, with a double bed and a child’s bed. The bathroom includes a separate bathtub, children’s toothbrush and toothpaste, and a child’s toilet seat cover, which is very considerate.
Pet Paradise: After unpacking our luggage, we headed straight to the pet paradise with Cola (our silly dog). Even before arriving, we saw various parents with their dogs, and Cola was extremely excited. The pet paradise is divided into indoor and outdoor areas. Indoors, dogs can enjoy afternoon tea, play on climbing frames, and with ocean balls, while outdoors, there is a vast grassy area for dogs to run around, and even a professional pet swimming pool for them to swim in. It’s worth mentioning that Shanghai Sun Island offers pet boarding and training services, equipped with professional dog trainers who can help dogs correct bad habits and learn some skills. Cola was boarded here for an afternoon; the little guy was timid and kept barking, but the staff were very patient, even giving him biscuits and yogurt, which was super nice.
Mermaid Train: After coming out of the pet paradise, I took my daughter to ride the mermaid train. The train is composed of blue and white colors, and there are colorful paintings on both sides of the car body, full of childlike innocence. The whole journey stops at three stations: hotel lobby, mermaid pier, and small green space. After buying a ticket, you can ride it all day. Looking at the island scenery along the way makes you feel relaxed. Food Delight: For dinner on the first day, the family tried the small hot pot. One person has one pot. The set meal includes vegetables, meat, fish and shellfish. The pork bone soup is thickly boiled. I heard that the vegetables are organic vegetables grown on the island. They are very crispy when eaten. With meat and seafood, it is completely enough to eat. If you don’t feel full enough, you can add a staple food without limit. The next day’s breakfast was eaten in the hotel’s buffet restaurant. I must praise it. It is of very high quality among hotels. There are Chinese and Western styles. The noodles in the open kitchen are very delicious. The self-made soy milk and yogurt are excellent. If you want Western food, there are also salads and bread. The whole family is very satisfied. For lunch, we chose the Waterfall Western Restaurant on the first floor of the lobby. We were too full in the morning and the three of us were not very hungry. We ordered a special children’s meal for our daughter. The tableware for children is very popular. The freshly made hamburgers and juices are very popular. My husband and I tried the new dirty milk, a dessert made with fresh milk and fruits. It is very good to have a cup in early summer when it is cool. Play/Entertainment: I heard that the equestrian club of Shanghai Sun Island is very famous before coming. After having breakfast on the second day, I took my daughter to walk horses. At first, my daughter was a little afraid when she saw the big horse. Later, the staff brought a small pony for her to ride, and she fell in love with it immediately. Protective gear will be worn before getting on the horse. The staff will lead the horse throughout the process, so there is no danger. The baby has a great time. Seeing that there are many children learning professional equestrian skills at the equestrian club (Shanghai Sun Island Equestrian Club), it is very handsome. There are many places suitable for children to play on the island. We chose to go to the Ingenuity Hall to do handicrafts first. There are teaching teachers and tool kits. You just need to follow the instructions. We chose a soft pottery and a leather bag, and finally completed them all successfully! In May, the weather is already relatively hot. There are many people gathered here at the mermaid pier. Water sports have become popular activities. A family of three rents a water bicycle, which is very comfortable. After having enough to eat and drink and having a great time, we go home. The time at Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel is very pleasant. The slow time relieves fatigue and calms the mood. Why travel? It gives me happiness.
