Taimu Mountain

Taimu Mountain is the main scenic area of Taimu Mountain Scenic Area. According to legend, in the time of Yao, an old mother planted orchids in the mountain. She met a Taoist priest and became an immortal. Hence, it was named ‘Taimu Mother’ at first and later renamed ‘Taimu’. From bottom to top, there are tourist areas such as Yuhu Nunnery, Guoxing Temple, Lover’s Valley, Yingxian Terrace, Hulu Cave, Yipianwa, Jiuli Peak, Moxiao Peak, and Tianmenling. Since Taimu Mountain is very large and it usually takes half a day to reach here by bus, it is recommended to spend two days for sightseeing, so there will be more than enough time and it won’t be so rushed. During these two days, you can stay on Taimu Mountain or in Qinyu Town at the foot of the mountain. Generally, buses arrive at the square in front of Taimu Mountain, which is the Yuhu Nunnery scenic area. The main scenic spots are the statue of Taimu Empress and Pingxing Temple. As Pingxing Temple is a Buddhist college and not open to the public, generally when people come here, they basically take photos in front of the statue of Taimu Empress as a souvenir. At the end of the square, you can see a black plaque with three big characters ‘Taimu Mountain’, indicating the beginning of the trip to Taimu Mountain. The first place to arrive is the Guoxing Temple tourist area. In the scenic area square, you can look up at the landmark scenic spot Couple Peak and the spectacular peak forest Eighteen Arhats Rock. Then, along the walking path on the right, after taking a few steps forward, you can see the stone pagoda Lengqie Pagoda and the ruins of Guoxing Temple built in the Qianfu period of the Tang Dynasty. Turning behind the temple, you can go to Longtan Lake to look up at the strange peaks of Wulonggang and their reflections in the water. Moving forward, you can see a winding stone step path going up. This is Sagongling. Along the way, the trees are uneven and mountain flowers are in full bloom. After walking through Sagongling and climbing up a vertical section of stone steps, you can reach Yingxian Terrace. According to legend, every year, all kinds of immortals come to Taimu Mountain for a gathering. As the host, Taimu Empress sets up a banquet here to welcome all the immortals. Continuing upward is the Yipianwa tourist area. Squeezing through the Yixiantian Cave that can only allow one person to pass sideways and passing through Baima Cave, you will reach Yipianwa. Visiting the famous Yixiantian scenic spot, between two dark huge rocks, there is only a narrow, thin and curved stone crack. Dim light shines through from the top of the rock. You can vaguely see the rainwater flowing on the rock wall, but it is pitch-black below. The Taimu Empress Hall is also in this scenic area. When coming to Taimu Mountain, you must come and pay respects. Other mountain scenic spots include Moxiao Peak, Hongxue Cave, Lvxueya, Baiyun Temple, Jiuli Lake, etc. The charm of Taimu Mountain lies in viewing peaks. The Moxiao Peak tourist area is a good place for climbing high and looking into the distance. What’s interesting is exploring caves. Hongxue Cave is one of the more fun caves. Here, caves are connected to each other, caves lead to caves, and caves are nested within caves. Exploring them is very interesting (remember to bring a flashlight. You can also buy one in the scenic area, but the price is definitely more expensive than outside). After exiting Hongxue Cave, you will reach Baiyun Temple. At the ticket office, there are free maps available. You can ask the staff to help draw a route map because the signs in the scenic area are not particularly clear, and many caves are one-way, so as to avoid getting lost.

Simply follow the aforementioned route to enjoy your visit. For a day trip, you can dine at the town at the foot of the mountain, where meals are affordable and delicious. If you choose to stay at a hotel on the mountain, meals are typically had directly at the hotel.
