The summer vacation is approaching! Have you decided where to go for fun? North of Beijing, not very far. I am going to that great grassland. Slowly step into the embrace of the Colorful Forest, bathe in the natural oxygen bar, take a small train, shuttle between the mountains and forests, and watch the windmills turn. In the First Grassland in Northern Beijing, witness the shock of the Khan’s Palace. Put on Mongolian costumes, shoot arrows and ride horses, and gallop on the grassland. In the Hansulu International Ecological Ranch, encounter camel herds, go grass skiing and sand sliding, stay in yurts and small wooden houses on the grassland, eat roast lamb and look at the starry sky. Here is a summer with only 20 degrees, far from the intense heat. I invite you to travel with me… North of Beijing, there is a self-driving summer escape travel route named ‘Qilu Line’. It is not ‘Qilu’ in Shandong Province. Instead, it is a fantastic journey of grassland, river, forest, and ranch connected by the Colorful Forest on the Fengning Bashang Grassland – the First Grassland in Northern Beijing – the Khan’s Palace – Hansulu International Ecological Ranch. And our first stop starts from the Colorful Forest with swaying clouds and lush green grass. This is the Shenxianggu Colorful Forest, three hours away from Beijing, with an average temperature of 16 degrees. It is on the must-visit list for grassland travel in Chengde. It has various natural landscapes such as forests, grasslands, wetlands, hills, and lakes. The Colorful Forest is like a mysterious tribe hidden in the valley. You need to explore deeply to discover its wonders. Pass through the huge tribal gate, take a small train, and head deep into the forest. Climb onto the glass plank road with a wide view, look at the layered mountain shadows, and stare at the tireless spinning windmills. The Colorful Forest tourist resort is dominated by forest resources. The natural forests on the Bashang are mainly composed of birch, aspen, and apricot forests. The shrub forests include white elm, small red willow, sand wolfberry willow, and Caragana korshinskii. In addition to forest resources, there are grasslands, rivers, and lakes in the scenic area. There are mountains and plateaus. There are hills and meadows. The scenery is naturally beautiful and the climate is cool and pleasant. Enjoy an afternoon tea accompanied by alpacas and stroll through the dense birch forest with refreshing breeze. Empty your mind and daze. This is a place that makes people forget the existence of time. Unexpectedly, there is an even more fairy-tale steam train waiting for us deep in the dense forest. Chugging along, not very fast. Looking at the scenery all the way, it takes us to a lake like a mirror. There are wooden plank roads, gazebos, and cafes. It turns out that it is for us to stop and take a break and watch the clouds roll and unfold. In the afterglow of the setting sun, I also want to desperately grasp this gradually passing time… We stayed at the Colorful Forest International Resort Hotel. If it is a parent-child tour, it is recommended to stay at the Squirrel Inn. The room design is full of warmth and childlike fun. Enjoy a special feast of oat noodles. After eating the whole roast lamb, say goodnight with the fireworks show of the Colorful Forest and end a beautiful day! The second stop? The First Grassland in Northern Beijing. Take photos in Mongolian costumes, check in, ride horses and shoot arrows.
Welcome to the First Grassland North of Beijing, where you can experience the grandeur of the Mongolian culture by dressing in traditional attire, taking photos, horse riding, archery, and even herding on a vehicle. The vast grasslands offer a plethora of activities, including drifting down the Lightning River. Beneath the azure sky and floating white clouds, it’s truly a scene where ‘the wind blows the grass low and the cattle and sheep are seen.’ Located approximately 180 kilometers north of Beijing and about 90 kilometers from Fengning County, the First Grassland North of Beijing is a popular tourist destination during the summer months of July and August, with temperatures averaging around 18 degrees Celsius. The area boasts lush green grass, wildflowers covering the hills, and a rich Manchu-Mongolian ethnic culture. The grassland resort features yurts and tents for visitors’ lodging and dining, along with activities such as horse riding, picnicking, and bonfires. They also host horse racing and wrestling events. The third stop is the Great Khan Palace on the grassland, a wonderful place to learn about the history of Mongolian tribes. The palace, rebuilt on the historical site where Genghis Khan stationed his troops and trained for his conquest of the Central Plains, features a typical palatial central axis architectural structure. The main buildings are arranged from front to back as follows: palace gate, Chongtian Gate, military tents, council golden tent, sleeping tent, and Aobao, with the altar for heaven worship at the very back. Entering the Great Khan Palace is like opening the door to history, allowing us to have a trans-temporal encounter with the great Genghis Khan, to visualize his military formations, and to appreciate the heroic might of the Mongol cavalry. Besides being a historical learning spot, the Great Khan Palace is also an excellent choice for dressing up and taking photos. It’s impressive and very spirited… The First Grassland North of Beijing’s nomadic tribe impression hall is quite excellent! Essentially, if you visit the First Grassland North of Beijing, you can have lunch here. The second floor of the impression hall displays all the local specialties of Fengning Ba Shan in the form of a food street stall, with a buffet price that allows you to eat at will. There are about fifteen to sixteen varieties, including steamed pork dumplings, oat noodles, fried cakes, mutton soup, and milk tea, making it very easy to overeat! After finishing your meal, descending to the first floor leads you to a特产 store in a circular formation, where local specialties such as dried beef, pot tea, milk tea, milk tablets, and milk strips are available. There is also a specially recommended ‘Bullish Ice Milk Cake’ for summer cooling. In summary, the experience is quite good and interesting! Leaving Chengde, we arrive at the depths of the Ulan Butong Grassland at Han Suru. Han Suru International Ecological Pasture, located in the Horqin Right Front Banner’s Huolain Huhure Sum, translates to ‘royal’ in Mongolian. During the Qing Dynasty, it was the pasture where Mongolian princes fattened cattle and sheep as tributes to the court, closely connected to the famous Ulan Butong ancient battlefield. Han Suru is characterized by a unique European-style grassland scenery, with mountain meadow grasslands and hilly meadow grasslands crisscrossing each other.
Hansulu International Ecological Ranch is 450, 260, and 300 kilometers away from Beijing, Chengde, and Chifeng respectively. It is a light luxury original ecological resort ranch with themes of sightseeing, experience, parent-child activities, research and study, camping, and photography. In light rain, strolling on the grassland with Sister Lily. The air is full of negative oxygen ions. Breathe freely. At Hansulu grassland ranch, there are many beautiful and fun things. Dopamine-colored starry sky cabins, yurts, European-style cabins. Various photo spots. Grass skiing and sand sliding. Encounter magnificent sunsets and the vast starry sky. It’s wonderful. This summer vacation, come to the grassland and have a 20-degree summer!…
