Thousand-Step Golden Sands

Thousand-Step Golden Sands, named for its length of nearly a thousand steps, stretches from the northern foothills of Ji Bao Ridge to the base of the Sea-Gazing Pavilion, spanning approximately 1750 meters. It is one of the larger beaches on Mount Putuo. The beach boasts a broad and gentle slope, with soft, fine, and clean sand. At the northern end, a massive rock is rooted in the sand, which emerges as the tide recedes, inscribed with the words ‘Listening to the Tide.’ Above it, stone steps lead to the Sea-Gazing Pavilion.

The sands of Thousand-Step Golden Sands are golden in color, pure and soft, wide and inviting. Walking on them, one neither gets wet nor sinks. Here, waves lap the shore day and night, with the sound of the waves ceaseless. The waves play with the sand, coming like a waterfall and stopping like a trailing ribbon. When strong winds and waves are stirred up, the beach becomes a thunderous spectacle of snow, exhilarating to the soul. In the blink of an eye, the bizarre and extraordinary landscapes are indescribable.
