Three generations cruised on Royal Caribbean Spectrum, experiencing educational and entertaining family time at sea. My initial memory of cruise ships probably began with various stories about them I heard as a child. I still remember watching ‘The Legend of 1900’ as a child, and while I was still confused about the grand life praised in the movie, the most impressive thing to me was probably the top luxury cruise ship. More than 100 years ago, that giant ship had everything from a gym, swimming pool, to high-end restaurants, which made me yearn for a cruise trip. After falling in love with travel, I had the opportunity to experience many cruises. For me, a cruise trip not only provides an opportunity for my mind to relax while traveling alone, but it is also the best choice for a family trip with three generations. There are many different experience programs on the cruise suitable for people of all ages, and safety naturally goes without saying. Royal Caribbean Spectrum, the best choice for a three-generation trip! Because I don’t know much about cruise ships, I tend to prefer more famous companies with good reputations among the public. As an international cruise brand that has been popular around the world for fifty years and has won the ‘Best Cruise Company’ award for fifteen consecutive years, Royal Caribbean undoubtedly became my first choice. In 2009, Royal Caribbean entered China, leading the Chinese cruise industry into the ‘era of large ships’. Royal Caribbean Spectrum is a new ship that just launched this year under Royal Caribbean Cruises. My first impression of Spectrum was shocking. The sixteen-story cruise ship, like a giant, cuts through the waves on the ocean. The designer was very thoughtful, with a total of more than 2000 different types of rooms available on the ship. The luxurious suites on the ship are very suitable for a trip with three generations of grandparents. Although on the ship, I feel that eating, drinking, and having fun are all taken care of. The dishes in the ship’s restaurants cater to both children and the elderly with light tastes, as well as those with heavy tastes like me. In addition, various entertainment projects such as deck skydiving, North Star, and South Pole make me spend the whole day in a state of adrenaline surge. The children’s amusement park is a world for children. For the elderly, lying by the open-air pool and basking in the sun is very comfortable. Learning while playing, letting the baby grow during the trip. Taking children out for travel is a concern for many parents. Because children have different preferences from adults, simply traveling through mountains and waters and appreciating historical sites are not so attractive to them.
They are full of energy and curiosity, bouncing around for hours without getting tired. Additionally, my three-year-old son is at the critical stage of learning English. I have enrolled him in a VIPKID English class with a foreign teacher. Coincidentally, Royal Caribbean recently launched a cruise ship-based open class in collaboration with VIPKID. I have downloaded the lessons for my son to engage in immersive learning during our cruise, ensuring that our trip allows him to learn while having fun. This was the primary consideration for choosing a cruise for our family vacation. The Adventure Ocean on the cruise ship features a large children’s playground equipped with various colorful entertainment facilities, which is a paradise for the little ones and the most attractive spot for them. As soon as my son entered, he immediately started to enjoy himself, eager to try out all the interesting facilities. The playground was filled with laughter and joy. The innocence of children is truly something to envy. While playing, I also took the opportunity to help him review various words he had learned. Seeing different colors or toys, I casually asked him: ‘Do you remember how to say this in English?’ To my delight, he could always answer quickly, indicating that the open class by Royal Caribbean and VIPKID’s foreign teachers was indeed very helpful! The Aqua Park is a favorite among children. It seems that children are naturally drawn to water and love to play in it. However, it’s not just about water; how can mere water capture the attention of children? The Aqua Park features a variety of colorful sculptures scattered around sprinklers, nozzles, and water cannons, as if they were faithful playmates for the children. Kids can use these water cannons to drench their friends and engage in an intense ‘water battle.’ At night, the Aqua Park transforms into a beautiful world of sculptures illuminated by colorful lights. My little one made a group of lovely friends here, and he still keeps in touch with a few of them. The Aqua Park Restaurant is a paradise for children. As the name suggests, this restaurant located on the 14th deck is right next to the children’s water play area. When the children get hungry from playing, they can directly enjoy their favorite food at the restaurant. The entire restaurant’s decoration style is full of childlike fun, which is very attractive to children. The restaurant’s menu takes into account the taste preferences of the little ones, with chefs using their skillful hands and professional knowledge to prepare nutritious and delicious dishes for the children. During the meal, my son could spontaneously name most of the ingredients in English and actively requested to review them. He was also eager to show off his vocabulary related to food during his VIPKID foreign teacher classes, which brought me great comfort.
Laser Duel is an absolute favorite for slightly older boys. It’s akin to playing real-life CS, which is a favorite among children. Upon entering the venue, it feels as if you’ve stepped into a futuristic world with a dimly lit environment and green lights, creating an atmosphere of technological sophistication. Inflatable toys serve as partitions, allowing children to play safely and freely. The entire venue resembles a maze where children clad in cool ‘interstellar gear’ engage in a ‘duel’ between aliens and robots using laser guns. My son’s sense of immersion was particularly strong, and to my great surprise, he spontaneously created a little story in English upon returning to the room. Challenge the impossible and enjoy the ultimate experience amidst adrenaline surges. Although a three-generation family vacation means taking care of both the elderly and the young, we mustn’t forgo our own entertainment opportunities. The Spectrum offers a wide range of entertaining and thrilling activities, which for someone who loves to play like me, is nothing short of paradise! The South Pole Ball is located at the stern of the ship, facing the North Star from afar, and is one of the signature attractions of the Spectrum. Inside the South Pole Ball, there are four trampolines offering three thrilling games: the Robot Tug-of-War, Candy Jump, and Bass Bodyguard. Wearing VR goggles and bouncing on trampolines, you can experience the sensation of free-falling from the North Pole to the South Pole, truly exhilarating! Tips: Since bouncing on trampolines requires straps around the thighs, it is recommended to wear long pants to avoid painful friction on the thighs. After the thrilling experience at the South Pole Ball, my legs still trembling, I couldn’t wait to visit the North Star. The North Star is the highest observation point on the entire cruise ship, one of the two major features of the Spectrum, offering a 360-degree view of the entire ship and the horizon. Although there is a fee, it is a must-try experience! Tips: The North Star is incredibly popular, so it’s no surprise that there are long queues. It is recommended to download the official Royal App in advance, where you can make reservations for various entertainment facilities and restaurants. The Skydiving on the Spectrum’s deck is a big hit. Experiencing the exhilaration of soaring in a confined area of about ten meters is an unprecedented feeling. Before the experience, you will watch a safety instructional video, then wear professional equipment and follow the instructor to experience it! With your head slightly raised in the wind tunnel, you can see the distant horizon. Tips: 1. Before the experience, change into tennis shoes, sports shoes, and socks; skateboard shoes are not allowed! 2. Accessories on your body cannot be brought, but you can ask a friend to take photos for you outside.
Without a doubt, here comes another thrilling activity that requires mental preparation! Sea Bumper Cars When I learned that bumper cars could be enjoyed on the Spectrum, I was genuinely surprised. Thinking back, it had been years since I last played bumper cars. This time, as I sat in the car, gripping the steering wheel with both hands and my son by my side, the collision of the cars brought both excitement and tension, with my son screaming out loud. The experience was truly exhilarating. Relax and enjoy the elegant and tranquil private moments. The elderly in our family do not enjoy the hustle and bustle and are not particularly interested in these exciting entertainment options. For them, a vacation means finding a quiet place to enjoy their own little life. Choosing a cruise was also a consideration of this issue. On Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum, one can both have a great time with friends from all over the world and quietly enjoy the passing of time. Luxurious Family Rooms Most of the elderly’s time on board was spent in their rooms. No wonder, as the sea-view balcony room we stayed in had everything one could wish for, allowing a luxurious experience without leaving the room. Both the elderly and children can feel at ease in the sea-view balcony room. The room is fully equipped with all necessary amenities. Through the window, one can see the boundless ocean. As the sun sets in the evening, the elderly sit on the balcony lounge chairs, listening to the seagulls sing, which is truly a delightful experience. In addition, the Spectrum features a 261-square-meter duplex Perfect Family Suite. The Perfect Family Suite includes three separate bedrooms, providing a private space for up to 11 people across three generations, with a children’s play area on the second floor and a children’s slide that leads directly to the living room below. The entertainment and audio-visual room is equipped with karaoke and a complete surround sound system for the whole family to share joyful moments. It’s truly an aspiration just thinking about it. Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pools Since it’s a sea journey, of course, water play is indispensable. The Spectrum has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, with very clean and clear water. There are rows of lounge chairs next to the pools, with sunlight shining in from the large glass ceiling, making the entire swimming area bright. The elderly in our family like to walk around the pool area in the evening when the sun is not so strong, take a dip in the water, and then lie on the lounge chairs by the pool to enjoy the sea breeze. Sometimes we accompany them, the children play in the water, and we chat about family matters. With our busy work schedules, opportunities for the family to gather like this are rare, and sharing a chat is a precious family moment! A collective trip for three generations, whether it’s children, the elderly, or us as young adults, everyone can find their own happiness on the Spectrum.
