Yaoshan Zen Temple

Also known as the Medicine King Zen Temple, it is located on Governor Jao Bertie Street, featuring traditional temple architecture. Although it appears ancient, it was actually built in 1933 and has only been standing for over sixty years. Compared to other temples, its history is not very long. It is said that the creator was the abbot of the Medicine King Temple on Hui’ai Street in Guangzhou, Master Guoqing. He was skilled in medicine and dedicated his life to healing the sick. In his later years, he came to Macau to build Yaoshan, intending it as a place for quiet meditation. Unfortunately, he passed away before the temple was completed. The abbot of the Bamboo Forest Temple on Shengli Road, in order to fulfill Guoqing’s last wish, continued to build Yaoshan. The temple hall is spacious, with tall Zen pillars and several golden statues of Bodhisattvas, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
