Historically, Yongqing Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty and is one of the ‘Eight Scenic Spots of Chengmai in ancient Hainan’. It is a famous Buddhist forest in Hainan’s history. According to historical records, many virtuous officials and refined scholars such as Li Gang, Li Guang, Hu Quan, and Su Dongpo have visited this temple, making it famous far and wide, and the Buddhist teachings have spread throughout Qiongzhou. Yongqing Temple in Hainan has been destroyed by war many times and then rebuilt. Later, it was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. In 2001, the Chengmai County Party Committee and the county government decided to rebuild Yongqing Temple. On April 22, 2009, it was successfully completed and a grand ceremony was held. Yongqing Temple enshrines 42 Buddhas and Bodhisattvas such as Sakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru Buddha, Guanyin of the Sea Island, and Manjusri Bodhisattva. All Bodhisattvas are carved from whole pieces of Burmese white jade. They have high artistic and cultural value and have received extremely high evaluations from all sectors of society. Yongqing Temple is rebuilt by the sea. The blue sea and sky make the scenery pleasant. The environment is quiet and the air is fresh. The temple is planted with five trees (bodhi tree, fishtail palm, sugar palm, clerodendrum cyrtophyllum, and betel nut) and six flowers (frangipani, crinum asiaticum, lotus, michelia champaca, hedychium coronarium, and musella lasiocarpa) related to Buddhism, highlighting the greenery and the majestic, solemn and quiet Buddhist realm, achieving a realm of returning to simplicity and integrating heaven, earth, people and Buddha. Create a traditional cultural tourism experience area with the characteristics of Buddhist cultivation and leisure. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:30 to 17:00.
